The Esperanza - Cochinilla

Each Casa Nushki piece is made slowly and in very small quantities. The fabrics are carefully sourced deadstock linens and cottons, then cut and sewn in a small women-run studio in Mexico City before being hand embroidered, crocheted, dyed or finished by artisans in Oaxaca.

Many of these details take days or weeks to complete by hand. The price reflects the time, skill, materials and relationships behind each garment - from the women who sew the pieces to the artisans who dye, embroider and finish them.

We produce in tiny runs, often making only one, three or five of each design. Every piece carries human time, physical memory and the knowledge of the women who made it.

The Esperanza in cochinilla is a one-off, and one of the most deeply special pieces in the collection.

The process of making this dress was unforgettable: from sourcing the deadstock Japanese seersucker in London, to it being cut and sewn by a women-run atelier in Mexico City, to the handmade lace, to days spent learning from the women of the Duu’Nga’A cooperative in Teotitlán del Valle, to the hand embroidery... the piece has travelled through space and time.

The work of the masterful artisans and weavers of Teotitlán del Valle carries knowledge, resistance and extraordinary care. Together, we dyed this dress with cochinilla, creating a natural pink tone that feels alive, warm and completely singular. The dyeing process alone takes several days, and each stage of the garment's creation reflects the skill, time and artistry of the women involved, from London to Mexico City, from Teotitlán del Valle to Ocotlán de Morelos.

Brought to life with red and fuchsia embroidered flowers, handmade deshilado lace and a billowing silhouette, she carries the physical memory of every hand involved in her making. Romantic, rooted and quietly powerful, she is not just a dress but a piece of art shaped through friendship, learning and shared process.
